Jun Abe (b. 1955) has focused on street photography since the 1980s. After graduating from the Visual Arts College (formerly the Osaka College of Photography), Abe joined the avant-garde Butoh dance group Byakkosha as their official photographer and toured with them throughout Southeast Asia and Europe. In 2006, he joined the publishing label Vacuum Press and has since produced numerous photo books and magazines. In 2013, he won the 25th Society of Photography Award for works such as Citizen and Black & White Note. He describes his approach as "pressing the shutter when my sense of reality overlaps with my sense of the dream world. His photography embodies the essence of snapshot photography and is characterized by its strong, hard-edged look and light, fleeting nature.
