After graduating from the Visual Arts College in Osaka, Keiko Nomura (*1970) moved to the United States in 1996 to study photography in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Her 1999 photobook Deep South, centered on Okinawa, earned her the Newcomer's Award from the Japan Photographic Society and the Higashikawa New Photographer Award. Her 2019 book Otari – Pristine Peaks won the 28th Tadahiko Hayashi Award.
In her work, Nomura documents the lives of people living in urban environments or in nature over long periods of time, capturing the atmosphere and memory of a place in brilliantly balanced colors. Her style is characterized by a wide range, sometimes portraying the lives of her subjects with vigorous power, sometimes with dignified serenity.
