Eiko Yamazawa (1899–1995) was a pioneer of women's photography in Japan. After moving to the United States in 1926 to study photography, she opened her own photography studio in Osaka in 1931. After the war, she established a career as a commercial photographer and made repeated trips to the United States between the 1950s and 1970s. Her best-known series, What I Am Doing, consists of abstract color and black-and-white photographs made in the 1970s and 1980s. Yamazawa is internationally known for her vibrant, colorful compositions and the varied textural qualities of her photographs.
